Agronomic Characteristics and Correlations in Ecotypes of Garlic

Abstract
This study was performed to get basic informations for culture and improvement of garlic. Seven varieties in southern and twenty varieties in northern ecotype were used for this study and arranged in split plot design with three replications. Agronomic characteristics and correlations were evaluated and compared in and between two ecotypes. The results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. Flower stalk length and number of clove per bulb were longer and much in southern ecotype than those of northern. However, plant height, leaf length, bulb diameter, bulb weight were larger in northern.
2. As a result of analysis of variance, every characteristics measured showed significant difference between two ecotypes. Other characteristics excepting leaf length and bulb height within southern ecotype and all characteristics within northern were significant statistically.
3. Degree and sign of correlations were relatively same in most of characteristics but different in some cases.
4. There were highly significant correlations between bulb diameter and bulb weight and comparatively high correlations between bulb weight and bulb height or plant height.
